Rome and Sorrento area

Rome and Sorrento area

I have had a love affair with Rome since my first visit in 2004.  I have visited Rome four times now, and each time I find more to love! I suggest 4-5 nights in Rome and 4-5 nights in Sorrento. While in Sorrento take day trips to the Vesuvius, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. We took our adult kids with us on this trip. We made such great family memories.

What I can do for you:

  • Find hotels in Rome in safe neighborhoods, where you can walk to almost all the major sights. These hotels will also have access to the Metro, to whisk you to Vatican City.
  • Help you buy advance tickets to museums from a reputable websites.
  •  Advise you about car rentals, and how to be safe in rental cars.
  •  Help you plan day trips to Vesuvius, Pompeii, and the Amalfi Coast
  • Advise you about fun (and drawbacks) of traveling during the holidays.
  • BUDGET

  • airfare is about $1000 from DFW into Rome
  • Well located simple hotels run about $120-$150 a night, usually including breakfast.
  • Meals eaten in restaurants: breakfast for 2 people: $10 breakfast, $20 or less lunch and $30 or less dinner (not including wine and you will want the wine)
  • Car rental for driving to Sorrento (no car in ROME!! ever) about $40 a day plus gas.
  • entrance fees to places- $15-30 per entrance
  •

Christmas is an amazing time in Rome. It is fairly cold. Temps were 37-52F but the orange trees, the decorated churches, festive meals and Christmas markets made it worthwhile. Plus it is a great excuse to drink hot chocolate and cappuccino.

Stops for you will surely include The Coloseum, The Forum, The Pantheon, Piazza Navona,

Next stops on your itinerary might be St. Peter's in Vatican City. You may even climb the dome to take in the remarkable view of the city.

And on the same day visit the Vatican Museum where the Sistine Chapel is located.

Don't forget places like The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and various churches

Next on your trip would be a drive south to Sorrento. We really enjoyed New Year's in Sorrento- the fireworks and candle lanterns were incredible. New Year's Day was perfect for a drive down the Amalfi Coast.

And if you visit this area you must go to Pompeii and hike up the Mount Vesuvius Volcano.
