San Fran to Oregon- road trip

San Fran to Oregon- road trip

For our 20th anniversary my husband and I did a road trip from San Francisco to Oregon.  There are so many things to do along this route. Nature vs City...Big Wineries vs Small Breweries... Mountains vs Oceans.... all the choices are good choices!! Now you need to look and choose! Start and end your trip in San Francisco by making a loop all the way up to Oregon.  This will take about 10 days

  • What I can do for you:

  • find a hiking trail, so special, I named it God's Hike
  • find fun restaurants and bars that won't break the budget in San Fran.
  •  find ocean front hotels in your budget
  •
  • Budget

  • airfare $280-$300 from DFW
  • Hotels in San Fran are expensive, $200 and up, but there are lower cost options
  • Hotels on the coast run $140 and up depending on view and town
  • Food will run $50 a day pp- less if you do picnic lunches- more if you eat at trendy restaurants
  • rental car will run $50 and up depending on car size.

Start and end your trip in San Francisco.  Here are photos of the fun things we did in the city. Ride on cable cars, visit the water front (but don't eat there!) hike up a tower, meet new friends at a local bar, walk, shop and eat in Chinatown, see Lombardy Street, cross the Golden Gate Bridge, see Jerry Garcia's house, sail on the bay, see a famous prison, get chosen to eat a weird brunch, witness a huge musical instrument played by waves.  There are so much more to San Fran then Fisherman's Wharf!

Move on to northern California. See big trees, stay the night in a harbor town- the light rain made this picture, tour a mansion...and eat at a Korean sandwich shop

Head further north and do I hike I have nick-named God's hike.

Keep going north...stay at a small hotel on the beach.  The beach walk was fun in the fog.

keep going north, beautiful scenery along the highway, another great beach and an incredible sunset- it looked like the sky was on fire.

Next head inland to see waterfalls, salmon ladders, wind and kite surfers, festivals, breweries, and stunning well graded hikes...How can you not want to go here???

Now  head south and stay at a mountain lodge... Hiking, making snow angels or hanging in the lodge eating cheese and drinking wine.(It was a great way to spend our evening).

Keep heading south...with stops at the bluest lake and other hiking spots in National Forests.  Then you just buzz right down Highway 5 and return to San Francisco.
