Iceland
Iceland is a great vacation for those who love nature! But it CAN be expensive and you CAN end up going where everyone else goes- and it CAN get crowded, which will be disappointing for you. Using the information I gathered in Iceland, I will help direct you to the best experiences.
My husband and I took 2 weeks and circumnavigated the country. If you only have a week there are still many awesome options that aren't tourist traps!
What I can do for you:
- Help you hire a local private guide for a full day tour into the interior.
- Explain the difficulties at gas stations and liquor stores
- Give you directions to hidden waterfalls, strange rock formations, bird watching spots, hot springs locations and just really fun places to visit!
- explain the perks of combining Iceland with other northern European countries
Budget
- staying in 1 high end hotel (over $250 a night)
- airfares are coming down. We paid $600 rt DFW, but there are specials for $350 now
- a few medium priced accommodations ($150-$200)
- most places under $150, which included stays in guest houses and adult/family hostels with kitchen privileges. These were basic places. Some had bathroom and showers down the hall.
- Our rental car was $100 a day for a Yaris (plus gas)- you do not need a 4WD unless you plan to drive into the center of the country (get a guide to take you inland.)
- meals at restaurant (for 2) $20 for breakfast, $30 for lunch and $50-60 for dinner (no alcohol).
- food bought at grocery (for 2) $8 breakfast, $15 lunch and $20-25 for dinner
You have a choice of high end hotels, plain hotels, guest houses, family farms and family hostels. We loved the accommodations that had kitchens the best. We loved meeting other travelers from around the world, as we cooked and ate our meals together.
